Miasma by Greg Cox was a fun albeit short addition to the Star Trek universe that I know and love. This book centers around Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) characters after the resurrection of Spock on the Genesis Planet. This novel is not associated with any of the newer Star Trek films that changed originally established canon.
That being said, I really enjoyed this book. As an avid Trekkie I always appreciate an opportunity to venture in to the Original Series, especially in book form. This story centers around an away mission gone wrong. While investigating a distress signal, the Enterprise-A dispatches a team. With Captain Kirk otherwise engaged with diplomats, it is up to Spock, Dr. McCoy, Chekov, and his security team to save the day. Unfortunately, while entering the atmosphere their shuttle crashes and they narrowly escape going down with it. The native planet has many pitfalls and it’s only by sheer luck that they survive the crash alone. Will Kirk be able to save the away team before it’s too late?
If you enjoy Star Trek, you will enjoy this short novella. It’s easy to read and the story paces well. It has all the elements of Star Trek with adventure, exploration, and good old fashioned bickering between McCoy and Spock. For this reason I am giving Miasma 5/5 phasers for a fun adventure!
I received this book for free from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
