The War for the Waking World is the third and final novel by Wayne Thomas Batson in the Dreamtreader series. This is a continuation of Archer’s story from Dreamtreader and Search for the Shadow Key, and the situation seems more dire than ever. When Archer discovered that he was a Dreamtreader, one of three people in a generation to be able to explore dreams, it started him on a path of danger and responsibility battling against the Nightmare Lord. With his EX-best friend Kara sitting on the throne of the nightmare lord it is not going to be an easy task, and to fail will mean that the entire World will fall into chaos.
The Dreamtreader series is written primarily for younger audiences around the middle school age group. It is easy to imagine the Dreamtreader world as an allegory of the battle between good and evil, God and Satan. Unfortunately, I found that in this book, I had a difficult time engaging with the overall story. Batson wants readers to equate this with Narnia/LOTR, but the story is not near as good nor the characters engaging. For this reason I am giving War for the Waking World 3/5 stars for a good book that just didn’t appeal to me.
I received this book for free from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest review.
