The Mind Readers

The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton is the first book in the Mind Readers series. This book is the story of Cameron, a girl that has never quite been normal. Oh, she may struggle with some of the same things everyone else does, such as trying to fit in, being popular, but she was one extra advantage, you see, she reads minds. If you’re plotting something bad, she hears and on more than one occasion, that has resulted in her nearly losing her freedom. For her whole life, Cameron has been on the move. Every time she talks about per powers or knows something she should not know, her grandma moves them to a safe location, to keep suspicion down.

All of Cameron’s hiding now appears to be over. When she sees a schoolmate dead it triggers a change in her, a desire for something more than hiding all the time. She longs to use her powers for good. When she meets Lewis, a fellow mind reader, he tells her of a new home to which she can belong. A place where she can be safe from government organizations wishing to kill her. A place where she can learn to use and enhance her powers.

I enjoyed this book, but I am having a hard time really classifying it as any genre beyond young adult fiction. It has a hint of romance, a dash of adventure, and a whole lot of intrigue. Unfortunately the end is somewhat of a cliffhanger, but there are 3 other books that you can read and explore in the series right away, so no need to worry too long. For a good story, albeit sometimes with too swift of a plot development I am giving this book 3.5/5 stars which will round up to 4 in Amazon.
