Christmas is only 5 days away! I’m excited to soon be going home to spend the holiday with my family and friends, as well as to experience the beautiful winter-y weather that Michigan has to offer. I’ve always said that it is not Christmas without snow, having grown up in Michigan for most of my life, that statement still rings true today. Even though I will not be in Florida for the holidays, I still wanted to decorate just a little bit around my apartment.
As you can see, this is a little Christmas tree. My friends and I made this back in High School for a Spanish project. It says “Feliz Navidad / Merry Christmas” and is one of the things I held onto. If you would like to recreate this ‘Christmas Tree’ it’s not that difficult.
1. You need a foam cone, for the base, similar to the one seen here:
2. You need green tissue paper of sorts to glue onto the cone. See what works best for you. What we did was grab the paper and twist it in order to give it that ‘tree’ approach. You should let this sit for a few hours in order for it to dry and not slide off the cone.
3. You will need a some beads that can mimic Christmas lights. Again you can create this yourself or find it pre-made. For parents with young children, it is best to do this yourself or to purchase pre-made.
4. You will need Christmas lights, you can find these miniature versions in Arts and Crafts stores. The same for the letters and snowflakes.
5. You will need a star of sorts for the top. You can make this out of paper, or purchase a metal star. If you do purchase a metal star, you will need to place some wire into the cone in order to hold the star in place.
Once you have done all of that, voila! You have your own home-made portable Christmas tree. It’s a lot of fun to do around the holiday season and a relatively cheap craft for you and your family/friends to enjoy doing together.

Of course there are paid upgrades, but the standard Christmas video option is a great way to let your Children hear from Santa as well as look around the North Pole.

Finally, for those of you in the Florida area, or any other area with a Gaylord Palms Hotel, the ICE exhibit is a fun way to experience the chill of winter! This year the theme is based off of Frosty the Snowman, you can walk through this winter wonderland and see ice carvings in the shape of your favorite characters from the movie, as well as slide down an ice slide! I had a wonderful time this year, here are a few pictures from my adventure!
